Edible Adventures: Gjelina

Morning guys!
Can you believe it’s already wednesday?
Me neither.

I thought we’d switch it up a bit this morning and talk about food I didn’t make myself.
Because while I obviously love, love, love to cook, I’m also a big fan of trying new places.
(and letting someone else do the dishes)

Sure, Gjelina’s been around for a while, but since I rarely make it so far out west, it was new to me!
We stumbled into their (totally) unmarked and bustling dining room on Saturday afternoon, and I was pleasantly surprised to realize it was Gjelina, only after I snagged a business card!
Mostly because I’d heard intriguing rumors of olive oil gelato…

The rumors are true, and it was delicious. Crazy crowded. Cute light fixtures. Brick floors. Tall beers. And a waiter wearing bright blue socks.

We ate:
Briny Malpeque Oysters with pints of Smog City, followed by pizzas a plenty.
I had the Blanco with Castelvatrano Olives, and also tried my fellow diners’ Homemade Chorizo, and Mushroom, Goat Cheese & Truffle Oil pies. All amazing.

And the olive oil gelato didn’t disappoint. It reminded me of my mom’s homemade ice-cream (we got to pick which flavor we wanted every birthday) but with a little gourmet kick.
And that drizzle of olive oil on top? Drinkable.

I’ve been dreaming (and talking) about the gelato for days and can’t wait to head back soon.
Maybe when I pick up my new bike in a few weeks…

Care to join me?

Mmm, that looks so delicious! And a new bike, yay! Are you getting it custom, or do you have one picked out?

    • Tabitha says:

It’ll be kind of custom…I’m getting the 3 speed roadster, but having different handlebars, bell, basket….
      So excited! :)

Gelato Bar in Los Feliz has olive oil gelato (or they did on Friday, at least), and it is to DIE FOR. That and a cup of their amazing pour over coffee = perfect afternoon work break!
