The Cupcake ATM

Novelty is not lost on me, and so when the rumors started flying that Sprinkles (creator of the cupcake craze here in LA) was installing a cupcake ATM, I knew I had to see (and taste) it for myself.

So this weekend I ventured into Beverly Hills with some old friends, and we patiently stood in line to experience the world’s first (and only) cupcake ATM.

All pretty in pink, isn’t she a beauty?
And I’m pretty much in love with the whole blue/green/pink/red stripe thing too.

When it was finally my turn, I tried to act cool…

…but this is how I really felt. (like a muppet jonesing for a sugar high?)
I mean, come on you guys, it’s a cupcake ATM!
Midnight cupcakes for all!

After you select your flavor (I chose old favorite, red velvet), you swipe your credit card, and a moment later your individually boxed cupcake magically appears.

It’s amazing. And delicious.

And because this is LA, there’s a dog cupcake too. Really.
Next time I’m taking this smug mug along for a treat.

Do you love novel adventures (and out of town guests) too?
Would you stand in line for a cupcake?

  1. Oh my!! This sounds like a lot of fun!! I love the States for their being so open to new things all the time!! Thank you for sharing this!!!

    • Tabitha says:

Absolutely! Sometimes it’s easy to ignore/make fun of the novel (and sometimes I do), but it’s a whole lot more fun to be excited about it! :)
Especially when “it” is a cupcake!

  2. Hemborgwife says:

I am beyond jealous but in a way happy since I know I would totally drive to eat cupcakes at midnight when I should be in bed!

    • Tabitha says:

Yes, I share your concern! Luckily I’m just far enough away that I’d REALLY have to want that cupcake.
So, ugh, it still might happen some night…

  3. Kim says:

Wow, this is amazing! I want one in SF now!!!

  4. Eh…sooo jealous!!! Totally wish Boston had something as cool as this! Soo want one. Thanks for sharing the deets.

  5. Amanda says:

I LOVE this and I’m so jealous there isn’t one here! I still haven’t ever been able to try Sprinkles, because the closest one is a few hours away, but I’m dying to!

    • Tabitha says:

I’m pretty picky about a cupcake, and Sprinkles is definitely my favorite of the cupcake bakeries! Moist (most hated word) and not too sweet. Also a normal size.
Someday you’ll have to go on a little cupcake road trip and tell me what you think!

  6. Mindy says:

Gotta be honest, I am not the biggest Sprinkles fan (I’m a loyal customer of Big Sugar on Ventura Blvd), BUT we will probably be taking the in-laws to the cupcake ATM when they visit in a few weeks, simply for the novelty of it.

    • Tabitha says:

Ooh- I love Big Sugar! (it’s really close to my work) but agree that for out of town guests the novelty is pretty impressive! Oh, who am I kidding? The novelty was (clearly) pretty impressive for me too!

  7. Of course I would stand in line for cake. That is genius!

  8. Emilia says:

Sprinkles isn’t my fav (Big Man Bakes stole my heart and I can’t ever go back) but I do love their frosting and will always make a pit stop if I’m close by. I’m super curious to see how fresh the cupcakes taste at midnight. I think I’ll need to take a trip under the excuse of pregnancy cravings and find out!

    • Tabitha says:

I am all in for a midnight tasting! It’s research, right….
And, I’ll have to try Big Man Bakes again- it’s right across the street from my old place, but opened after I moved….so I think I popped in once and wasn’t very impressed/haven’t gone back. Which cupcake is your favorite there?

  9. Allison says:

I HAVE to try this. It looks so amazing (and so fun!). I’m not that far from the ATM, and I think I need to get a cupcake there. :)

  10. brianne says:

holy moly! I had seen sneak peeks of this but the real thing is almost too good to be true. If I’m ever in LA, thats my first stop!

  11. Meg says:

    So brilliant.

Oh…my…gosh! We don’t have Sprinkles here in Florida (deprived, we are…), and this just adds insult to injury! That ATM is freakin cool. So freakin cool. Jealous!
