I’m leaving for Japan in just under 2 weeks, and so I’ve started doing something very important : shopping for gifts for my Japanese friends!
Gift-giving is important in Japan, which is fine by me, because I LOVE finding the perfect gift for family/friends. I’m one of those people who will buy you 5 christmas gifts if they’re perfect for you, or none at all if I have to resort to something generic. Like bath products.
Candles are sometimes generic too, but they’ve been specifically requested, and I’m very pleased to deliver! Especially since I discovered that this Voluspa Muscari candle smells exactly like the air in Hawaii (home). It’s delicious! Sweet and fresh, but not cloying. And since Nami really enjoys visiting my family in Hawaii too, it’s perfectly personal!
Now I just have to resist burning it before I go!
Do you have a favorite candle that doesn’t burn (erhm, break) the bank?

Whenever I went to Japan, my default omiyage would be See’s Candies.. then I discovered they have a store in Omotesando! D’oh! Now my mom and I bring fun packs of American candy bars (Snickers, etc.) Candles are a great idea.. the gift that keeps on giving!
Ha ha- that’s pretty funny!
And of course it’d be in Omotesando!
Candies are always great- when I lived in SF it was always Ghirardelli….
Maybe I’ll have to stock up on some LA Sweets!
Are there any?
Sprinkles cupcakes vending machine?
That is my exact gift-giving mantra!!
Oh good- I’m glad there is someone else! I just don’t understand the buying a gift for the sake of buying a gift mentality (it runs especially rampant around the holidays and drives me nuts!)
Voluspa also makes a small glass, lidded candle line that is super affordable (around $10 – $12 depending on where you buy), has a good burn time for the size (20 – 30 hours) and smells amazing. My favorite is Bella Sucre – smells like a pretty girl’s room, haha, if that makes any sense.
It makes perfect sense- what else would you want your room to smell like ? Except maybe a *smart* AND pretty girl!
