Oscar Party Madness: Part 1

Hope you all had a fantastic (potentially long) weekend!

Mine was busy, busy, busy- throwing a baby shower, catching up with friends, eating delicious french food, and finally getting this post together… Because yowza! It’s T-minus 5 days until the Oscars you guys!

And I’m dead serious about the Oscars.
And totally unapologetic for my love of glitter too.

So even though I still don’t know who played in the Superbowl (really), and I haven’t had time to figure out the drama between Fumble + Aberdeen (Puppybowl!), I did have time to dream up my perfect Oscar Party Scenario, cover a bunch of shit in glitter, and have the fabulous Heidi Ryder capture it for you all to enjoy! All while sipping cocktails with friends.

It was awesome. And I’m excited to do it all again this weekend for reals!
Enough chatter though, let me give you the glitter:

This little 1960′s inspired sparkle-fest was tons of fun to put together, and I’m so glad my friends + family indulged me in dressing up and drinking so early in the afternoon!

AND I hope you’re able to glean lots of simple + sparkly inspiration for your own party!

My advice is to keep it simple with a champagne cocktail (champagne + a dash of lavender bitters here), bright florals, and fun ballots. Hammy friends in cocktail attire are appreciated, but not required! And for nibbles, don’t kill yourself. Who doesn’t love cheese + chocolate?

If you’ve enjoyed this first installment of the glittersparklemagic that Oscar party dreams are made of, make sure you check back later for more fun and a few awesome free downloads!
Including those amazing glitter bomb ballots by Lupa & Pepi! Swoon.

As for me, I’m floating along in a super sparkly glitter bubble this week.
Seriously. Even my dogs are covered in glitter you guys.

So I’ll see you later for some freebies, mkay?
Also, we need to talk Michelle Williams.
Did you see My Week With Marilyn?

#FF: Part 2

More fun links for your weekend! And if you missed the first round, you can check it out right here.

1. I met the lovely Katie of Salt + Pine out on the thrifting tour at Alt, and she totally encouraged me to buy my faux-fake fendi (thanks lady!) I love that her blog is filled with music + beautiful images of the Pacific Northwest, and I think she probably wins for having the most suitable (and yummy) wood business cards ever!

2. Studio DIY is right here in LA, and I didn’t even know it! Totally crazy, because Kelly’s love of hand-crafted elements for weddings and parties is right up my ally! Head over there for adorable homemade inspiration and killer vendor lists.

3. Lupa & Pepi (more LA love) provided the amazing stationery for my Oscar Shoot, and Rachel has a whole lot more fancy paper goodness where that came from. Oh! And she’s a total doll, who offers up champagne to Thursday night company. Aka, my kinda girl.

4. I first met the lovely Lillian of Unstitched at Blogshop LA and again at Alt. I love her sweet blog, her great eye, and her upbeat attitude about what really matters in life.

5. Jennifer of Rambling Renovators is one of the lovely Canadians who was mesmerized by my stripy cape and came over to introduce herself. And good thing, because her blog is chalk full of amazing remodeling tips, home-decorating inspiration, a cute little peanut, and a lot of helpful advice on blogging. I’m smitten.

Have a great weekend you guys, and if you have a minute, please head over here and vote for me! Just click “Popular Contestants” scroll down, and click the little gray heart on my picture! Much, much appreciated!

See you next week for Oscar Madness! YAHOO!

A Taste of Oscar Madness…

So that business about it being all about Oscar yesterday- yeah, I was serious.
And super excited! So much so, that I couldn’t even wait until next week to share it with you…

So now that the cat’s out of the bag (and rest assured he’s covered in glitter too), we’re having an Oscar Party kids! A sparkly 1960′s-inspired soiree doused in champagne and glitter.

Today it’s just a little taster (an amuse-bouche if you wanna be fancy like that), but next week it’s the whole 9 course meal! There will be chocolate and cheese and amazing downloadable Oscar Ballots and loads of ham, courtesy of my friends and family.

Oh! And plenty of sparkly Oscar.
The ultimate secret weapon to make your party guests swoon!

Have a great weekend and I’ll be back later with some link love to take your mind off the glitter madness (at least temporarily)…

Any other rabid Oscar fans out there?

Flowers + (Sparkly) Things to Come…

I don’t know about you guys, but it’s been a little grim and gray here this week!
Also, a little overwhelming. (hence the light posting)

I’m working a bajillion (authentic number) hours a day and coming home ready to tumble into bed. Or, if I’m honest, getting up in the dark, ready to tumble back into bed.

But enough whining already. Flowers + glitter polka dots are just the thing to cheer a girl up!

And lucky me, last night I had an inbox full of them, courtesy of the lovely Heidi Ryder, from a fun shoot we did this past weekend!

So grab your cocktail rings and get ready for the glitter madness! Also: cheese, chocolate, champagne cocktails and pretty (hammy) friends.

Because now that the Puppy Bowl is over, it’s all about Oscar…

Two Words & A Mantra

1/2/3

A while back, far enough so that it probably wasn’t even on this blog, I mentioned that I have a personal mantra. (I also promise that I’m not a total hippy)

But you wanna hear it right?

Hint: I never turn down gelato.
Or, I always try to say yes first.

Often times it’s followed by “and” or “but” (like any good theater major)
but I do like to be open to the possibilities.
So I try to say yes first, even when it’s hard and all I really want to do
is throw myself on the ground kicking and screaming “nononono.”

And this year I added a few more wordy ambitions: get involved and connect.

I like my little triumvirate because I can apply it to every aspect of life- work, home, love, friends, big and little goals alike.

What about you? Do you have a personal mantra or choice words that inspire?
Please share immediately. (hint: just say yes)

Do you Instagram?

I actually spend a lot of my work day alone (in my car, out in stores, at costume houses etc.) and so I really enjoy seeing what people are up to on instagram. A friend of mine’s husband calls it “what twitter should have been.” But I won’t lie- I puffy heart the hell out of twitter too.

It helps me pass the time when I’m being rung up, and enables me to ignore the heavy sighing/eye-rolling of particularly bitter salespeople when they’re “helping” me with a return.

It’s also really fun to see what people deem photo worthy. Dogs are big.
But I like to mix it up with mini-pigs, disco balls and lots of yumminess.

Do you Instagram?
If so, I’d love to follow you!
Leave me your handle in the comments-
I can’t wait to see what you mix it up with!

Handwritten is happening now!

I have to tell you guys that I had SO much fun reading all your comments/emails, and totally blog stalking you, that I’m sad I can’t be pen pals with each and every one of you.
You’re a mighty fine, fancy, interesting AND talented group of ladies, that’s for sure!

If you have no idea what I’m talking about, you can check out the fun details here and make sure to shoot me an email if you want in next round.

And if you’re just here to drool over pretty letterpress stationery, well I support that too!

I especially want the little hearts.
What about you?

Closet Rehab: Valentine’s Day Edition

So I haven’t exactly put away my wallet just yet, but I didn’t think I should let that stop me from sharing this easy (and cheapcheapcheap) DIY Flower with you guys. And it’s just in time for Valentine’s Day!
A holiday I celebrate purely for the crafting possibilities…

So grab an old shirt (or skirt, or anything really) and a pair of pinking shears and let’s go:

Someday I will be fancy enough to make you those downloadable PDF thingies I see around the blogosphere, until then, grab some card stock and do what I did: draw 2 different teardrop petal shapes, a square, and a few rectangles. Now cut ‘em out to use as your pattern!

Use 4 large petals to form a base.

Followed by 6 layered sets (small/large).

Add stamen + remaining small petals and finish with a button center. Flip over and finish back by stitching remaining square on only two sides, so that you can toss it on an existing necklace (like we did) OR use it to bobby pin your flower in place.

Pretty easy huh? And by my calculation, totally free!
Now you just need the pretty girl, LBD, and a sunny day…

It shouldn’t be hard, I bet most of you already have the first two in the bag!

And seriously, how do we feel about Valentine’s Day around here?
